On 7/24/17, emergency workers responded to a grass fire in the area of 700 E. 2750 N. The fire was caused by a defective aerial firework. When the firework was lit, the bottom reportedly blew up, causing it to tip over and launch horizontally.
In the course of investigating a recent string of vehicles that have been stolen or broken into, a suspect was contacted who admitted to breaking into several vehicles, most of which had not been reported to police. The vehicle owners were contacted. They each advised the investigating officer that they had been unaware that their vehicles had been broken into. None of the vehicles had been locked. Charges have been filed against the suspect in these cases.
On 7/26/17, a resident contacted police to report suspicious activity online. He advised that his 10 yrs. old daughter was playing a game online, and that a male who claimed to be 13 yrs. old and from out of state began sending her sexually graphic images and messages. It is unknown if the information on the suspect’s online profile is correct. This case has been forwarded to the Internet Crimes Against Children task force.
On 7/26/17, a resident in the 2850 N. block of 1025 E. reported that his vehicle had been stolen overnight. The vehicle doors had been left unlocked with the keys in the ignition. The vehicle was later recovered, abandoned in Pleasant View.
At approximately 2255 hrs. on 7/27/17, police located a stolen vehicle in the area of 3100 N. 1050 E. The vehicle fled and was later found crashed in the area of 900 E. 2750 N. The vehicle occupants fled prior to officers locating the vehicle. A police K-9 was deployed in an attempt to locate the suspects, however was unsuccessful. The vehicle had been reported stolen from another jurisdiction, however, evidence was found in the vehicle to link this case with a previously stolen vehicle from North Ogden that had been recovered in Pleasant View.
At approximately 0200 hrs. on 7/29/17, police located a suspicious vehicle in the area of 4225 N. 875 E. Several juveniles were located, and it was discovered that one of the juveniles had taken his parents’ vehicle without permission, picked up some friends, and drove to this location. All juveniles were released to parents.
The solar lights along the North Ogden trail on Pleasant View Dr. were reported damaged overnight 7/28/17.
On the morning of 7/29/17, police responded to a residence in the 1100 E. block of 2950 N. on a theft complaint. A bicycle had reportedly been stolen from the backyard of a residence sometime between 7/27 and 7/29/17.
On 7/29/17, police responded to a theft at the LDS church, 575 E. 3100 N. A citizen reported placing her purse in a closet while attending a meeting, and when she returned two hours later, her purse had been removed. The purse and some of the items were later recovered elsewhere in the building, however, personal ID, cash and credit cards were missing.
