The City Culinary Water System is Safe
We have had several questions over the past several days about the safety of the culinary water system. The way water systems have been handled and treated for decades safely and effectively kills bacteria and viruses, including the COVID-19 virus. You can find more information on the deq.utah.gov website. North Ogden is also well-positioned to avoid potential mineral contaminants, because we don’t have upstream contamination sources. Most of our water comes from springs tapped directly into the mountains, which have historically been extremely clean and require minimal treatment to meet culinary water standards. Please, do not put anything in the sewer system which isn’t toilet paper. This can lead to costly repairs to the system and possible backups in your own private system. Toilet paper is designed to break down in water, and most other paper products are specifically designed to not break down. Our public works employees will continue to keep the system operational and, with the cross training, most, if not all, of the public works employees know how to keep each of the utility systems up and running. If you see them out and about, give them a wave and thank them for all they do.
