Mayor Taylor and the City Council broke ground for the Barker Park Amphitheater expansion on Wednesday November 15th. Construction begins immediately, and is expected to last for 6 months, finishing next spring. The first phase of construction will include a new and larger stage, a majestic amphitheater building built over the stage, and a concrete terraced seating area in front of the stage. The project is being built in phases in order to not use bonding and to deliver the project in a fiscally sound manner. Future phases will include finishing the interior of the building, installation of fixed seats, additional parking lots, and a plaza area for civic events. City leaders are working hard to obtain outside funding to support the project, and have acquired the largest RAMP grant in our city’s history toward the first phase of the project!
